This pilot deployment of the Traffic RadWatch system consists of a network of Detection Units and Radiological Sensors statically deployed at intersections in Colorado Springs, CO.
The Detection Units collect radiation measurements from the sensors every second, and communicate them to the RadWatch Server using the city’s traffic infrastructure. The radiation data are stored on the Server, undergo a real-time threat analysis (which includes differentiating threat agents from medical patients), and are graphically represented on the RadWatch Manager.
A key design feature is the integration of the MDI Traffic RadWatch system with the pre-existing conventional traffic management video system. Preliminary threat analysis is performed on each Detection Unit and upon threat identification the traffic-related video cameras are directly instructed to capture and tag video from the intersection and vicinity.
