Mobile Detect developed the Community RadWatch system in association with McFadden Technologies Ltd. resulting in deployment with the RCMP in Ottawa, Canada.
The system involves a network of ruggedized mobile Detection Units and Radiological Sensors covertly deployed in RCMP cruisers, collecting radiation measurements every second and coupling the radiation data with GPS-generated location information. The combined data is wirelessly reported to the RadWatch Server, and stored. Once stored, the data undergoes a real-time threat analysis, which includes differentiating threat agents from medical outpatients. Results are available for immediate graphical interpretation and further statistical analysis.
A key element of this system is its ability to generate a location-based model of “normal” radiation levels across the community. Comparing new measurements against this model provides very sensitive detection of distant, weak or shielded radiological sources.
